I reuse plastic-check out bags as trash can liners, and don’t want to buy them. What can I use?
Greenest Option: Sign up for Sharon curbside compost pick-up and your trash will be significantly reduced to fit in produce bags, bread bags, or half gallon waxed cardboard cartons (which are not recyclable). blackearthcompost.com/residential-curbside-compost-pickup/ This is a win-win because food waste that decomposes in anaerobic landfills produces methane, which is at least 28 times stronger than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.
Collect dry trash with a washable can without a liner or lined with newspaper, or a basket with a washable liner.
Use small produce bags or half gallon waxed cartons for wet trash (the latter is a good option as they are not recyclable, while the produce bags, if clean, can be recycled if left in the bin in the front of Shaw's Sharon).
Product overwraps can be used for larger trash cans. (e.g. from potting soil, dog food, kitty litter, toilet paper, & paper towels, see below). But this is not the best option for the clear plastic bags that can be recycled at the bin in the front of Shaw's Sharon.
